Etching designs are either hand cut or now a days are done by machine depending on the design. Typically, etchings need to be done on a darker granite to get the full affect of the contrast of the design. Etchings are different than engraving in that a fine tool is used to etch the polish on the stone away to form a design. They are just what can be done with an etching design.
